Workshop: Basics of Odissi Dance 2, Kyoto

23.12.2017

ワークショップ:オディッシーダンスの基礎 2 in 京都

As a continuation of the Workshop "Basics of Odissi Dance" where you learned about the hand gestures in Odissi Dance, you will now learn about the footwork in the traditional literature for Classical Indian Dance.

"While the upper body seems to flow from one distinct pose to another, the bended legs point out the rhythm of the drums. Hereby a clapping sound occurs, caused by the dancer's bare feet." (Description of Odissi Dance)

In this workshop you will learn about the five basic foot movements (pada bheda's) from the Natyashastra and how to apply them in Odissi Dance. You can also try out several rhythms of traditional Indian music and how to clap with your feet.
