This Workshop is explicitly for beginners and Odissi students with basic knowledge. You will learn about the first steps of a Choreography in the classical dance style of the east coast of India, called Odissi. In future there will be following workshops to continue on further steps of the choreography.
In this blog entry you will find some background information about the choreographical structure and the "myths between the lines" in Guru Debaprasad Das' Odissi choreography of the Dashaavatara (the ten incarnations of Vishnu).
In the 8th year after the earthquake and tsunami in the Tohoku area the Honen-in Sanga organizes twice a year this charity event to support affected families and reconstruction work.
At this event Miki Nonaka and Kamala Klebanova presented their two different styles of Odissi in a collaborative way. By performing together and one by one the audience could explore the very fine and more obvious differents within the family of movements in Odissi Dance.
In between other dance performances from different cultures, Kamala performed an Odissi program of a classical repertoire (see: 5 different types of items) without any entrance fees! Good for everyone who wanted to know more about Odissi in a casual and sunny atmosphere : )
